Paradise Lost - Parts 1 & 2 (HBO docs)

“Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills” and “Paradise Lost 2: Revelations” have re-surfaced from the 1990’s since the 3 subjects of the films have recently been released thanks to DNA evidence being recognized 18 years after their conviction…Yes, really!…Clocking in at almost FIVE HOURS combined, these two docs are exhausting viewing of the justice system laughably mis-handled in the hands of the dentally-challenged in Arkansas. Really…if you saw these people in a work of fiction, you’d say, “No way!?”

Stepping outside this mess of human nature, it’s interesting to look back at the early, un-polished, HBO documentary machine - which is now the class of the art form - sink their teeth into a rich subject matter. HBO’s film-makers have come a LONG way since then in finding compelling stories, about BIG issues, that sometimes take place over decades - and baking them into can’t-miss programming that - in many cases - changes the course of politics, business & industry, and - in this case - the lives of 3 wrongly-convicted young men.

Now that “The West Memphis 3” have been released, HBO’s 3rd and final installment of this gripping Arkans-drama promises to be a more polished, amazing conclusion that is up to modern-day HBO Documentary standards.

As with all of the best documentaries…You really can’t make this stuff up.
