The Tree of Life

Challenging, ambitious, and 138 minutes of “what the heck is going on here?” for the audience. Terrence Malick continues to be given a hall pass to make what are clearly “important” films for him - but fail to connect with a broad audience. Critics love him for being intellectual (Rhodes Scholar). Actors line up to work on something “artistic” (Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, anyone?) The audience at my screening - literally - GROANED OUT LOUD after surviving this meditation on life, faith, nature, and grace…Quick, pass me a Milk Dud.
